Lovid-19

Animated short film

3d

Lovid-19 was born during the very first days of quarantine, a moment marked by isolation, uncertainty, and an unusual excess of time. Conversations shifted entirely to chats and video calls, becoming the only shared space left. During one of those calls, director Alfonso Pontillo proposed turning that suspended moment into something creative — a project that could speak about quarantine while being created inside it.

What started almost as a game quickly became a full-scale production. Five people committed to an intense creative marathon: nearly forty days of continuous work, endless Skype calls, and online sessions that often stretched beyond twenty hours. The team was scattered across Italy and beyond, yet worked as if sharing the same room.

We handled all the 3D production for the film, from asset creation to animation and look development. Illusion Makers took care of direction and compositing, while Turtle Studio contributed with cinematography direction and 2D animation. The workflow was entirely remote, improvised where necessary, and driven by shared momentum rather than formal pipelines.

Lovid-19 became more than a short film. It marked the beginning of a deep and lasting professional collaboration — one that started in isolation and evolved into an enduring creative partnership that continues today.
